Ola,
After hearing about a similar project in Toronto where I went for my hols last year, I’ve set up a little blog about all the old typography we have lying around factories, old advertising boards, street signs etc in Sheffield. The point I suppose is to document some of the beauty thats around us and get it snapped before it all gets demolished and turned into office space or monotonous apartments.
Myself and Alan (the man behind this and this) got up early (well…8 o’clock) on a blistering and beautiful day to snap as many bits of interesting Type as we could find. We could have spent all day doing it, especially as we got over to Kelham Island which was choc-a-block with interesting bits and pieces. We also found some great stuff at the Portland Works and at the various other old works around Sheffield.
If you fancy a look (its worth it, if only to see the blue sky), its here: www.sheftype.co.uk
You can also submit your own pictures through the blog so if you know of a nice bit of lettering send it in or tweet me at @therusstler and I’ll do it for you (you idle bugger…).
